Let's start with the simplest version of the truth. LawyerHatch exists because serious CLAT preparation has become far too expensive and far too opaque. A bright student in a small town, or one whose family can't spare lakhs for coaching, ends up at a quiet disadvantage that has nothing to do with how hard they're willing to work. We think that's the wrong way to run an exam that decides who gets into the National Law Universities.

So we built the thing we wished existed: a free, high-quality, genuinely exam-realistic practice platform for lawyerhatch clat aspirants. Not a PDF dump. Not a wall of answer keys. A proper test experience — the same kind of screen, timer and scoring you'll meet on exam day — that you can use as much as you like, for nothing.

📌 What LawyerHatch is, in one line
A free CLAT UG practice platform built around a real exam-screen test engine — countdown timer, question palette, mark-for-review, instant scoring and a full worked solution for every question. Backed by previous-year papers, topic drills and in-depth section guides.

Why we built LawyerHatch

The CLAT is not an unfair exam. It tests reading, reasoning and a clear head under time pressure — skills any committed student can build. What's unfair is the access gap. The best mock tests and the most polished practice software usually sit behind a fee. The students who most need cheap, honest practice are often the ones least able to pay for it.

Our mission is narrow and stubborn: give every CLAT aspirant free practice that feels like the real thing. Not a watered-down free tier with the good bits locked away. The actual test engine, the actual past papers, the actual solutions — open to everyone.

ℹ️ We're a practice tool, not a coaching class
LawyerHatch won't replace a good teacher or a study group, and we don't pretend to. What we do brilliantly is the part most students skimp on: realistic, repeated, well-explained practice. Pair us with whatever else works for you.

What you'll find here

There are four things on the platform, and they're designed to work together. You can start anywhere, but most students settle into a rhythm of drills during the week and a full mock at the weekend.

💡 A sensible first week
New here? Read the Syllabus page to see the lay of the land, take one previous-year paper untimed to feel the format, then do two or three topic drills in your weakest section. By the weekend you'll be ready for a full, timed mock — and that score becomes your baseline.

How the practice engine works

The point of LawyerHatch is the test experience, so it's worth walking through exactly what happens when you sit down to practise. There's no setup and no account hoops — you pick a test and you're in.

  1. 1
    Pick a test
Choose a previous-year paper, a sectional test, a topic drill or a full mock. Each is labelled with its section, length and timing so you know what you're getting into.
  2. 2
    Solve in the real interface
The test opens on an exam-style screen: a countdown timer at the top, a question palette showing what you've answered, skipped or flagged, and a mark-for-review button so you can park a tricky question and come back. It's deliberately close to the real CBT screen.
  3. 3
    Submit when you're done
Submit early or let the timer run out — either way the engine locks your answers and works out your result instantly. No waiting, no manual checking against a key.
  4. 4
    See your score and accuracy
You get your total with CLAT's real marking applied — +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong one, 0 for unattempted — plus your accuracy and a section-by-section breakdown so you can see where the marks went.
  5. 5
Read the solution for every question
This is where the learning happens. Every question comes with a full worked solution explaining the right answer and, just as importantly, why the tempting wrong options are wrong. Reviewing this is how a mock turns into a lesson.
📌 The marking is the real marking
CLAT UG is 120 questions in 120 minutes, scored +1 / −0.25 / 0. Our engine applies exactly that. So your LawyerHatch score is directly comparable to a real attempt — which also teaches you the discipline of when not to guess.

Our approach to accuracy and honesty

A practice platform is only worth your time if you can trust the answers. We take that seriously, and part of trust is being upfront about the edges where things get messy. Here's exactly how we handle the answer keys.

⚠️ Why we'd rather say "we don't know"
It's tempting for any platform to slap a confident answer on every question. But a wrong "official" answer teaches you something false and dents your trust. Where a key is genuinely doubtful, we flag it and step back — because being honest about the gaps is what makes the rest of the platform worth believing.

Practise on the real thing, scored the real way, with the answers we can actually stand behind.

Independence and disclaimer

We want to be completely clear about what LawyerHatch is and isn't. LawyerHatch is an independent educational tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Consortium of National Law Universities or any individual National Law University. We are not an official source of CLAT information, and nothing here should be treated as an official announcement.

For anything official — registration, exam dates, the authoritative syllabus, official answer keys and results — always refer to the Consortium of NLUs' own website. Where our content touches on the exam pattern or syllabus, we work hard to keep it accurate, but the official source is the final word.

ℹ️ About the past papers
The previous-year question papers are the intellectual property of their respective owners. We use them here for educational and practice purposes only, to help students prepare. We claim no ownership over the original questions; the value LawyerHatch adds is the practice engine, the parsing, the scoring and the solutions built around them.

Frequently asked questions

Is LawyerHatch really free?
Yes — genuinely free. The mock tests, previous-year papers, topic drills, sectional tests and all five section guides are open to use, with no paywall sitting two clicks in and no premium tier hiding the good parts. Our whole reason for existing is to remove cost as a barrier to serious CLAT practice, so there's nothing to buy here.
Is LawyerHatch affiliated with the Consortium of NLUs?
No. LawyerHatch is an independent educational tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Consortium of National Law Universities or any individual NLU. We are not an official source. For registration, exam dates, the authoritative syllabus and official results, always rely on the Consortium's own website.
Are the mock tests like the real exam?
Very much so. Tests run on a screen modelled on the real computer-based exam, with a live countdown timer, a question palette, mark-for-review and a submit-and-review flow. Scoring uses CLAT's real marking — +1 correct, −0.25 wrong, 0 unattempted — so your score is directly comparable to a genuine attempt and exam day feels familiar.
Where do the questions come from?
From actual CLAT papers. We use previous-year papers from 2018 to 2025, parsed question by question into sittable mock tests, plus topic drills written in authentic CLAT style. Scored tests are marked against the official answer key. Questions that were officially withdrawn or had their key revised are excluded from scoring so a disputed item never costs you marks.
Why is the 2019 paper reading-practice only?
Because we don't have a clean, machine-readable official answer key for it that we're confident in. Rather than invent one and risk teaching you a wrong answer, we offer the 2019 paper for reading and familiarisation practice without attaching a competitive score. Being honest about the gaps is part of how we keep the rest of the platform trustworthy.
Do I need to create an account?
You can jump in and start practising right away — the platform is built to be self-serve, so there's nothing standing between you and your first mock. An account simply helps if you want to keep track of your scores and progress over time, but the practice itself is open and free either way.
